You Can Make It Happen

The truth is, it won’t get better on its own.
If Mondays are not your favourite day of the week, I can show you how that can be easily changed. Because when Monday is the best day of your week, the world shows up differently and you feel more in control.
Imagine what your best Monday ever would feel like!
There are three simple steps you can take to make Mondays the best day. If you follow these simple steps for the next three weeks then you will start to see the difference for yourself. If you start this week, next Monday could be the best Monday you’ve ever had.
Step 1 Preparation
Mondays are just another day, so to make them the best day of the week you have to prepare for that to be the case.
For me, preparation for Monday starts on Sunday. Sacrifice an hour of television to make your weekly plan. For most businesses, having a clear and well set out weekly plan will be a challenge at first. However, I can assure you that if you want to drive your business forward, a weekly plan is a great tool. The secret of a good weekly plan is to be clear about 5 main things:
- The core weekly focus – what is the main focus for the week ahead? This is a high-level focus and is linked to your monthly and quarterly goals.
- Weekly deadlines – what are the tasks that must be delivered this week, no excuses? It is challenging to commit in this way but I can assure you that when you do, your mindset changes and you get more done.
- Challenges to overcome – If you know that you have a big challenge ahead then don’t leave it to the last moment. Identify it and prepare for it.
- Resources required – what resources do you need to make this week a success? List them out and if possible identify where you can get your hands on them – don’t forget time!
- Key events – not just business events, but personal events too – how many times have we heard the story of missing a key event for your wife or children because work got in the way?
Step 2 Preparation
Now it’s time to prepare for what Monday will look like in detail. By making sure that you have Monday planned out you will sleep better on Sunday night – because your brain knows what to expect, you have a plan so your brain can relax and not worry about tomorrow. Below are the four steps that will help you have a well prepared Monday.
- Who I am BEING today – what sort of behaviour would make your Monday work for you? How do you need to be seen by your team, your customers, your family?
- Top three GOALS today. – you won’t get everything done but you can get your top three goals completed if you put your focus and attention on them.
- TASKS that must be completed – aside from your top three goals, there will be tasks that are important and urgent that need to be completed, paying bills, invoicing, sending a specific email, giving an appraisal to a team member, delegating a task, an activity with your children or spouse. If you get these tasks done your world works better for you
- PEOPLE I must call today – every day there are people that need to hear from you. Make a list so that you don’t get distracted and forget to call them
Step 3 Your Working Environment
The last thing to do is to prepare your working environment before you go to bed. This is especially true as so many of us are working from home at the moment.
Set out the documents, files or materials you will need first thing in the morning.
Be ready for your morning routine. Make sure that your systems are in place so you can focus on preparing yourself for a successful day and then you can go to bed knowing that you are all set for the day ahead and it will be the best day of your week.
Imagine having a restful sleep on Sunday, waking up excited and enthused on Monday morning, knowing your plan for the week and having a way to keep yourself on track the whole week long. How would a Monday like that feel?
To help you, I would like to share with you my proven planning sheets that I use to set up my week and daily plans. I use the daily planner every day and it means that my week is more productive.
